​Site Assistants:

The Site Assistants support the Site Director with the daily administrative functions necessary to run the successful 4-week summer program. This includes the supervision of children during morning Extended Care, supervising and mentoring the volunteer aides, distributing classroom supplies, supporting fundraising efforts, and monitoring recess. Necessary skills include: familiarity with word processing and Adobe InDesign to edit and create the camp yearbook, strong communicator with diverse groups of people, and experience working with children. Desirable skills include: familiarity with video editing to capture photos and edit Hip Wah moments for social media posts and to create the annual camp video and slideshow. Work hours are approximately 7:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as Saturday events, and must be available for the entire duration of the program. Minimum requirement: Must be age 18 or an incoming college freshman. Preference will be given to former Hip Wah campers.

Extended Care Assistants: 

The Extended Care Assistants support the Extended Care Director in providing a safe and fun environment for children who require childcare after the regular Hip Wah core day. They will participate in planning and implementing organized indoor and outdoor activities for campers ages 6-12, supporting camper sign-in/sign-out procedures, preparing and distributing snacks, leading campers between classrooms, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, and daily clean-up of the Extended Care area. Work hours are approximately 1:30 - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and must be available for the entire duration of the program. Minimum requirement: Must be age 16 or an incoming high school junior. Preference will be given to former Hip Wah campers.

Mandarin/Extended Care Assistant: 

The Mandarin Assistant supports the Mandarin Teacher in the supplemental Mandarin language classes, and at other times, supports the Extended Care Director in providing a safe and fun environment for children who require extended care after the regular Hip Wah core day. ​The Mandarin Teacher will assign duties to the Assistant, such as providing support to students with oral and written Mandarin exercises, making copies, and distributing supplies. The Assistant will support the Mandarin Teacher Monday-Thursday from 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. 

​Extended Care responsibilities are posted above. Work hours are approximately 1:30 - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and must be available for the entire duration of the program. Minimum requirement: Must be age 16 or an incoming high school junior. Must have completed high school Mandarin level 2 or equivalent experience in simplified Chinese. Preference will be given to former Hip Wah campers.

Accounting Assistant/Intern: 

The Accounting Assistant/Intern supports the Hip Wah Treasurer(s) with bookkeeping and other financial responsibilities. The individual will help track and process Extended Care payments, lunch revenue, timesheets, and reimbursement reports. Work hours are onsite one morning or afternoon per week during the program plus the Saturday Orientation and Open House, and then some flexible offsite hours for several weeks after the program concludes; must be available for the entire duration. Minimum requirement: Must be age 18 or an incoming college freshman. Preference will be given to former Hip Wah campers with interest in pursuing a degree in accounting, business, or finance.
